Abstract:Procrastination is a common issue among university students, which has various effects on mental health as well as academic performance. Screen time tendencies, especially in young adults, have increased, due to reasons such as Covid-19 or the increase of technology usage with studying. This research examines the relationship between procrastination and screen time tendencies in students. It is part of a bigger study and employed a quantitative study design comprising a sample of 82 participants. Questionnaires such as the Academic Procrastination Scale (APS), the mini IPIP and self-reported screen time were used to assess the relationship between screen time, conscientiousness and procrastination tendencies, as well as the moderating factor of the personality trait of conscientiousness. Despite some significant results concerning the relationship between conscientiousness and procrastination, results show no significant relationship between screen time and procrastination and no significant moderation effect of conscientiousness. This research adds to the understanding of procrastination and screen time, which is an understudied field when it comes to young adults such as students. Discussion points for future research include the lengths of the survey as well as several additional constructs, such as education or gender, which might influence the relationship between screen time and procrastination.
