Abstract: | Despite exercise benefits such as disease risk reduction and improved well-being, many individuals remain inactive. This study explored how personality (extraversion) interacts with the social aspects of exercise (interest, exercising with others, and showing off) to influence exercise motivation. 135 participants participated in a cross-sectional survey. Results showed interest and showing off predicted intentions for vigorous exercise, while exercising with others did not. Extraversion moderated the relationship between interest and exercise intentions. Finally, interest in exercise strongly correlated with enjoyment of exercise, while showing off had a weaker positive correlation. |
