Abstract: | This study examines how compassion and optimism mediate gender differences in Futures Consciousness (FC) among adults, an important factor for addressing global challenges and ensuring well-being across generations. Despite previous findings showing higher FC levels in women, this study found no significant gender differences in FC. Using a cross-sectional design with a quantitative questionnaire, data from 92 participants aged 18-72 were analyzed. The mediation analysis showed that optimism did not mediate gender differences in the agency beliefs dimension of FC. However, compassion was found to significantly mediate gender differences in the concern for others dimension of FC. The study highlights the need to consider educational levels and age in future research to better understand these differences. The findings can help design tailored interventions to enhance FC in both genders. |
