Abstract:The number of individuals affected by or at risk for mental health disorders is on a continuous rise and the search for accessible treatment options is gaining increasing attention. Ecological momentary interventions (EMIs) contain the potential to overcome the challenges of traditional therapeutical approaches and have been used in this study. As part of a larger framework that conducted a micro-randomised control trial using ecological momentary assessments to study different interventions for treating common mental disorders, this study qualitatively investigated the participants' experienced benefits of 23 days of EMIs based on a semi-structured interview scheme. The findings suggest great positive short-term benefits of flourishing well-being and increased happiness and long-term benefits of mindfulness and a regained sense of control. This suggests the major potential that EMIs contain for the improvement of the mental health of individuals and should be investigated in future research to help guide the further development of this accessible and cost-effective approach.
