Abstract:Although efforts are still being made to reduce the inequality between the income of males and females, it is often unclear how big this difference is and whether there is a difference between the public and private sectors. This inequality in income can cause females to search for an alternative. One of these alternatives could be entrepreneurship, but whether the income difference influences this remains uncertain. The objective of this study is to gain further insights into the income differences between males and females in the public and private sectors and the effect on female entrepreneurship. This research was conducted by using data from the Office for National Statistics of the United Kingdom and the United Kingdom government’s Gender Pay Gap service. This research shows that there is a difference in income between males and females in both sectors, with a higher difference in the private sector. Furthermore, it shows that the income difference in the public sector has a significant negative effect on female entrepreneurship, and the income difference in the private sector has a significant positive effect on female entrepreneurship. These results could be used in future research to analyze the presence and impact of female wage inequalities.
