Abstract:The goal of this paper is to investigate whether age has an impact on the approaches entrepreneurs take (effectuation/causation) in their decision-making process. Interviews were conducted with entrepreneurs from different age categories within incubator programs in the Netherlands. These interviews tried to investigate whether the age of the entrepreneur plays a role in the approaches entrepreneurs take in for example minimizing losses(effectuation) or maximizing profits(causation). The results show that older people are more focused on minimizing losses than maximizing profits. Meaning that in this research older people tend to lean more towards the effectual approach, however considering other principles as well, the results are not that clear as young entrepreneurs prefer using effectuation in some cases. This research shows that every entrepreneur is different and uses different approaches to different situations.
