Abstract: | This study explores the dynamic structure of a high-tech, chip-related cluster in the eastern part of the Netherlands, more precisely Twente. By gathering insights in the regional value chain, the regional value network and potential barriers in the development of the cluster a comprehensive overview has been created of the cluster. Moreover, this study utilizes a qualitative research approach. A total of 15 interviews were conducted among organizations active in the cluster under research. Finally, this study consists of three deliverables. 1) A comprehensive description of the regional value chain and where it differentiates from the industry’s conventional value chain, 2) A description of the regional value network, outlining different roles, actors and activities within the cluster, 3) Potential barriers impacting the development of the cluster. A total of 4 barriers were derived from the data, consisting of a human capital barrier: talent, the role of IP, the realisation of a new foundry and the cluster initiative. |
