Abstract:Background: Breast cancer remains a prevalent and impactful disease affecting women globally. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC), given before surgery, involves a period marked by emotional distress and anxiety due to the short timeframe for decision-making. To understand these experiences, a multidisciplinary team developed a version 1 (V1) questionnaire. This follow-up study increased the patient sample size and further developed the V1 questionnaire to make it more comprehensive. Method: The study, conducted at Medisch Spectrum Twente (MST), had two components. The first described women's experiences before NAC through a prospective quantitative study and retrospective patient record analysis, using data from V1 questionnaires and electronic health records. Statistical analysis focused on satisfaction and decision-making time. The second component developed a version 2 (V2) questionnaire to address the V1's lack of specificity in identifying dissatisfaction reasons. The V2 questionnaire included input from literature reviews, patient feedback, and breast cancer care professionals. Results/ conclusion: With 29 participants, results showed overall satisfaction with care, but seven patients were dissatisfied with the decision-making time. Higher education correlated with greater satisfaction. The V2 questionnaire, with enhanced clarity and comprehensiveness, aims to provide deeper insights for future research on the challenges faced by breast cancer patients during NAC.
