Abstract: | Telehealth is an application provided by virtual care centre (VCC) nurses to support the online exchange of medical information to enable the delivery of remote healthcare. This application of telehealth in hospitals is relatively new and has an innovative approach. The workload experienced by VCC nurses is therefore not yet known. This research focuses on virtual care centre nurses and their experienced workload. An online questionnaire design that consists of the NASA-TLX in combination with the Analytical Hierarchy Process identifies the experienced workload. Tasks of VCC nurses are identified through a Delphi-inspired method in a single-centred approach. These tasks are assessed on Workload using six workload variables: mental demand, physical demand, temporal demand, effort, frustration and performance. Statistical analyses are performed using the Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney test. Improving workload of VCC nurses can be achieved mostly by reducing the mental demand. On the contrary, physical demand has the least impact on workload reductions. The workload is highest in tasks of the development and promotion of new care pathways, so this is a promising area of improvement. Using the NASA-TLX with the AHP should be considered carefully regarding the inconsistencies when determining weights. |
