Abstract:This thesis examines the optimization of on-site inspector planning at Eurofins Food Feed, Water Benelux, a leading company in food and water safety. By exploring optimization techniques for a vehicle routing problem and developing a custom approach tailored to Eurofins' needs, the transportation and scheduling process is improved. A Periodic Vehicle Routing Problem with Time Windows and Dropoffs (PVRPTWD) is formulated and addressed using Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) and tabu search (TS). Experiments on real-world instances showed that the TS can reduce current travel times by up to 25%, slightly outperforming the results of MILP.
