Abstract:This research addresses challenges faced by the utility construction sector in creating and revising operational schedules. The absence of standardised methodologies leads to a high dependency on individual experience, resulting in inconsistencies and delays in project delivery. This research develops two methods to mitigate the impact of these challenges. The first method is the Multi-Objective Resource-Constrained Critical Path Method (MORC CPM) for creating schedules. The second method is the Schedule Revision Method (SRM) for revising schedules after disruptions. The MORC CPM focuses on creating efficient project schedules by considering precedence relations and resource constraints aiming to minimise project duration and resource variability while maximising resource utilisation. The SRM aims to revise schedules after disruptions occur by minimising changes to the original schedule and minimising the project completion time. The methods are tested in realistic scenarios, demonstrating improvements in scheduling efficiency and reliability. For both methods, a tool has been developed to allow executors to apply the methods. The methods have shown they reduce delays in project completion, enhancing the overall project performance in the utility construction sector.
