Abstract:The increasing population in coastal areas, diversification of marine activities, and their economic importance have prompted countries to prioritize marine spatial planning and Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM). This has led to the need for a marine cadastre to support marine spatial planning, which requires integrating land and marine cadastre systems for effective ICZM. This thesis focuses on enhancing the integration of marine and land cadastre systems in Kenya through the Land Administration Domain Model (LADM). The research first examines the management of Kenya's marine and coastal areas, including relevant policies. It then identifies the necessary marine-specific features and key information for developing an LADM profile tailored to Kenya’s marine cadastre, using LADM Edition 2 Part 3. After drafting the LADM profile, fieldwork in Kenya provided feedback from experts, leading to the finalization of the profile. Subsequently, an integrated data model was created by merging the marine and land cadastre LADM profiles. Interviews with experts confirmed that the LADM Edition 2 Part 3 effectively addresses marine cadastre needs and that the integrated LADM profiles will significantly enhance the integration of marine and land cadastre systems in Kenya.
