Abstract: | Demographic ageing in the Netherlands will result in an increased demand for care. Meanwhile the active labour force is decreasing. This dual effect will create a staff shortage in healthcare. Innovation is essential to increase the labour productivity and therefore mitigate the staff shortage. On top of this, the healthcare sector is a polluting industry. With the European Green deal being signed, aiming to reduce Greenhouse gas emissions, healthcare is required to enhance sustainability through innovation. Innovation often originates from external suppliers in both known and unknown supply chains, however healthcare procurement is considered traditional, risk-averse and cost-oriented. This has to change to enhance innovation. By approaching innovative suppliers, the role of the purchaser is bound to change and new skills are required. This research aims to find these emerging roles and skills in healthcare procurement and prepare the procurement department in advance. |
