Abstract: | In recent years, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and in particular Generative AI, has garnered significant interest across industries as an emerging technology. This is true also for the industrial and product design industry, where the use of AI promises new creative outlooks and improvements in efficiency. The reduction of development times and costs is of particular interest in an era of short and complex development cycles. This research explores the extent to which AI can be leveraged by small and medium sized design agencies to benefit from this potential time optimization. Here, through the lens of Dutch design agency WeLLDesign, AI methodologies were devised with the aim of minimising and streamlining design time-sinks. Through a case study validation and thorough revision, eight concept methodologies were proposed. This paper draws conclusions regarding the critical human-AI interactions, framing AI as a supportive, rather than substitutive, tool. |
