Abstract: | The study titled "Assessing the Needs and Stressors of Informal Caregivers of Young Stroke and Stroke Patients: Can the CVA eCoach App Provide Effective Support?" aims to explore the challenges faced by informal caregivers of stroke patients, particularly focusing on their unmet informational, emotional, and practical needs. The study was conducted at ISALA Hospital in Zwolle and used semi-structured interviews with 11 caregivers. These interviews revealed that caregivers experienced significant stress, especially during the transition from hospital to home. Caregivers expressed a need for personalized information about the type of stroke, emotional support, and practical assistance with daily tasks. Differences were noted between caregivers of younger stroke (YS) patients, who faced additional challenges like balancing work and young children, and those of older stroke (S) patients. The CVA eCoach app, which is currently only used for patients, was seen as a potential tool to address these needs. Caregivers suggested features such as personalized information, emotional support options, and practical advice. The study concludes that there is a substantial gap in the support for informal caregivers, and interventions like the CVA eCoach app could help reduce their burden and improve outcomes for both caregivers and patients. |
