Abstract:Supply chains are increasingly becoming more vulnerable to disruptions. Traditionally, risk management approaches are used to assess the possibilities of disruptions. However, this approach is deemed as outdated, as often the rare or unpredictable disruptive events do most damage to supply chains. To address this challenge, the concept of supply chain resilience has emerged as a more effective methodology for preparing supply chains to withstand and recover from unforeseen events. This study systematically asssesses supply chain resilience capabilities among manufacturing firms. Flexibility is the most difficult capability to build for organizations, in which product complexity has a strengthening function. Incorporating product modularity helps to increase flexibility and foster supply chain resilience.
