Abstract: | This research, performed at VDL ETG Almelo addresses the inefficiencies in their shuttle truck operations, which often fail to meet the 4-hour delivery norm between a rented storage facility and production locations. The study analyzed the action problem, revealing that over 60% of products are delivered late, with average delivery times exceeding 5.5 hours. Based on literature and operational analysis, the research recommends short-term solutions like adjusting truck starting locations, improving communication, and optimizing the picking order at the central storage. Medium-term solutions include enhancing product visibility at production sites and creating performance dashboards. Long-term solutions propose the use of a Transport Management System (TMS) to improve tracking, visibility, and planning. Adjusting the delivery norm is also suggested for greater consistency and more clarity. The phased implementation aims to streamline operations, enable data-driven decisions, and ensure continuous improvement while addressing current inefficiencies. |
