Abstract:Background: The menopausal transition is shaped by social, psychological, and physical factors. Understanding the roles of socio-economic status (SES), personality traits, and physical activity is crucial for improving women's well-being during this stage. Aim: This study examines the association between menopausal symptoms and SES, personality traits, and physical activity, as well as their combined influence. Method: Data from 211 menopausal women (ages 45–55, M = 51.9, SD = 2.6) were analyzed using the MIDUS 3 study (2013–2014). Correlation analyses were performed, followed by multiple regression to assess the predictors’ collective effects. Results: Higher SES correlated with fewer symptoms (r = -.30, p < .001), while neuroticism was linked to more symptoms (r = .35, p < .001) and conscientiousness with less irritability (r = -.15, p = .03). Light and moderate leisure activities were associated with reduced symptoms (r = -.19, p = .006; r = -.17, p = .02). The regression model explained 21.5% of the variance in symptoms (R² = .22), but individual predictors were not significant. Conclusion: Correlation analysis highlighted the importance of SES, personality traits, and physical activity in reducing symptom severity. However, the regression results suggest their influence may be collective rather than independent. Future research should consider hormonal and psychological factors to better address menopausal symptoms.
