Abstract:The integration of IoT technologies plays a growing role in professional football, where strategic use of data offers a competitive edge. This research develops a strategic decision-making model to help football clubs make informed IoT-related choices. While talent identification serves as a case study, the model's applications extend to player monitoring, performance analysis, and technological innovation. Using a literature review, interviews, and case studies from three Dutch football clubs, the study finds that successful implementation depends on technological capabilities, strategic vision, organizational capacity, and partnerships. It highlights the need for a holistic approach, balancing traditional scouting skills with technological reliance, building internal expertise, and fostering collaboration with technology providers. The developed model provides a framework for evaluating IoT strategies based on benefits, risks, and opportunities. The study also calls for industry-wide standards for IoT in sports to enhance professionalization. This research advances academic and practical understanding by offering a flexible model for strategic IoT deployment across various processes. It underscores the importance of integrating technology with strategic management to improve talent identification, performance, and competitive advantage.
