Abstract: | Unfortunately, accidents happen daily worldwide, this is portrayed in the news more often than one would think, and sometimes, it is not until the damage affects us or our surroundings directly that we realise all the harm that it brings. Behind these accidents, is a decisive action taken, and although there is always uncertainty in the outcome, alternatively, it is possible to reduce it if there is a known outcome to avoid (e.g. death). The process of avoiding fatal situations starts with a simple action, which is becoming aware of the potential risks and their consequences. In previous years, online mediums have become popular and efficient when trying to reach many people. The basis of this project builds upon ‘EduRisk’, an interactive online platform created by Marta Corrado, which contains bite-sized information explaining how risks affect everyone in their daily life. Additionally, this project will serve to educate people, through a mobile engaging game raising awareness concerning the risky situations they put themselves in. Boosting engagement in interactive online educational games can be attained through game-based learning, a method that disguisedly combines entertainment and education. Moreover, potentially deadly scenarios should be presented cautiously, and non-threateningly while making concepts memorable and accessible. This will ensure users understand potential hazards in everyday choices. |
