Abstract:This report addresses the inventory component liability at Nedap Retail. The problem started with the Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) claiming that high inventory positions are primarily driven by actions from Nedap. Nedap requires a substantiated explanation or supporting documentation from the EMS before agreeing to this claim. Therefore, the core problem identified is the lack of insight into component inventory liability at EMS. The aim of this research is to determine the extent to which the component inventory liability can be made transparent and optimized through data analysis in Power Business Intelligence (Power BI). To address this problem, the research was structured around four research questions. The main focus was on the fluctuations of the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and their impact. The KPIs are: inventory position, sales orders and forecasts, lead time, and price, and are referred to as “reason codes”, along with their corresponding liability values. A data-driven approach was used to develop a prototype tool aimed at improving the insight into component inventory liability. Data from Power BI was exported and analysed to identify the liability values associated with corresponding KPI fluctuations and excess value. The prototype tool is created in Excel.
