Abstract: | Advances in pharmacological treatments have resulted in an increasing proportion of patients with inflammatory arthritis achieving low disease activity or remission. However, many continue to experience chronic pain, often treated with pain medication that carries potential side effects. Active behavioral pain management techniques, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, mindfulness, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing have proven to be effective. Nevertheless, their broad implementation faces barriers. Therefore, a self-administered, non-pharmacological intervention is needed to address chronic pain. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the VR program Reducept which incorporates pain education, distraction, and active behavioral pain management techniques to reduce pain intensity in patients with inflammatory arthritis who experience chronic pain despite low disease activity or remission. |
