Abstract:Predictive maintenance plays are essential in risk management however, non-experts often struggle to understand these concepts due to their complexities. This research explores the design and effectiveness of a serious game that aims to teach predictive maintenance principles through interactive and strategic gameplay. The game includes key elements such as resource management, monitoring, proactive strategy and risk-to-reward decision-making. A user study with 15 participants was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the game. The results indicate that resource management and risk-to-reward balancing were well understood, while other concepts such as monitoring, failure prevention, and collaboration received mixed responses which suggests room for improvement in clarity of rules and game mechanics. Additionally, participants found the game engaging and visually appealing however, due to balancing issues, unclear instructions and weak real-world connections limited the learning outcomes. Future work should focus on improving the collaboration mechanics and strengthening real-world applications from the game to enhance educational impact. This study highlights the potential of serious games as an effective tool for risk communication and interactive learning.
