Abstract:With more and more indie games being developed and released every year, it becomes increasingly difficult for developers to secure funding for their projects. For this reason, in recent years, crowdfunding websites like Kickstarter have grown. These platforms allow developers to secure funding directly from potential fans and customers. The backers of these crowdfunding projects play a key role not only in the funding of these games but also in the development of them. However, does this involvement increase the quality of the final product? To answer this question, we analyzed the user and critic review scores of 158 crowdfunded and non-crowdfunded indie video games to see the effects of crowdfunding on indie game quality.
