Abstract: | Sound plays a vital role in shaping perceptual experience in Virtual Reality (VR), particularly in environments that require accurate responses to dynamic stimuli. While prior research has demonstrated the value of spatial and immersive audio for enhancing presence, the impact of auditory motion cues on the perception of movement remains underexplored. Therefore, in this work, we attempt to examine how audio cues affect users’ accuracy in intercepting moving object, and assess the influence of cue congruency on users’ ability to discriminate speed. While qualitative feedback indicated that participants found the inclusion of sound helpful, quantitative results did not strongly support this observation, suggesting a supplementary interaction between the two modals. Overall, our findings highlight the potential of well-designed auditory motion cues to reduce visual cognitive load and enhance perceptual accuracy in virtual environments. |
