Abstract:Overweight and obesity rates have tripled over the last 40 years even, though there is a lot of policy to reduce overweight rates, especially amongst people of low-SES groups (Netherlands, 2024). This research will focus on how health policies like JOGG are performing in reducing socio-economic disparities in overweight and obesity rates in the Netherlands. The research question is “To what extent have health policies in the Netherlands reduced socio-economic disparities in overweight and obesity?". Policies from JOGG municipalities with a specific focus on low-income, low education and low-SES, pared with having multiple interventions to address overweight for these groups, will guide this research. Policy papers, policy outcomes, and evaluations are studied and theory on the relationship of overweight and SES. This study aims to give an overview of the situation, analyze it and provide knowledge on policy outcomes.
