Abstract: | Sick or wounded hedgehogs are brought to wildlife shelters for rehabilitation. These hedgehogs’ health needs to be monitored for eventual re-release into the wild. Many common sensing solutions are either unsuitable or too expensive. This paper explores the potential of using millimetre-wave sensors to localise and track hedgehogs within their enclosures. This was done by comparing millimetre wave sensors to infrared and regular cameras. The comparison shows that more research is needed for the millimetre wave sensor. The regular camera does not function properly in low-light environments. Finally, the infrared camera performs exceptionally well. |
