Abstract:This graduate study is focussed on the relationship between Rijkswaterstaat Bouwdienst and her contractors. Rijkswaterstaat Bouwdienst mainly manages her contractors by punishment. Psychological theory learns that rewards create a more powerful motivation than punishment does. Therefore the use of rewards forms a potential way of improving project results. Results of this study are incentives that can be used by Rijkswaterstaat Bouwdienst to reward a contractor or vice versa. In this study an incentive is described as a change in the way of working, which will affect the behaviour of the other party in a positive way. This change will be initiated by the forecast of a reward. Incentives can be grouped into economical, moral or social incentives.
