Abstract: | What impact does a further enlargement of the European Union by states which are poorer, meaning having a higher percentage of people living under the poverty line, have on social labour policy? Could this result into a modification of the system and the regulations, and could this lead to a situation in which the current legal (social) system cannot function as it does now? Since India is also a union of states, with a huge difference in percentages of people living under the poverty line per state, I compare the social labour policies of these two ‘super states’ with each other in order to see whether the above can be expected. The main question of this thesis is whether the specific Indian Act and the specific European Union Directive on equal remuneration can be compared on both content and scope, and what the comparisons and differences are. Also the history, the legal system and the non governmental actors are discussed in order to compare the types of citizenship given by Marshall namely the civil, political and social citizenship. |
