Abstract: | This nine-month longitudinal research resulting in three separate studies was aimed at investigating study-success and problems of German students. The data were collected at several moments; five moments for German (N1= 135, N2=110, N3=98, N4=90, N5=87) and two for Dutch students (N1=74, N2=36). T-tests and One-way ANOVA showed differences between Germans and Dutch, regarding GPA, feeling at home in Enschede and feeling overburdened due to studying. German students experienced also more financial and social difficulties. A regression model of the examination in reading proficiency and high school GPA explained much of the variance in the university GPA. Hope was considered the only significant predictor for gratification. The university GPA correlated with the number of Dutch room-mates whereas gratification was linked to the time spent working part-time, feeling at home in Enschede and supervision from the university. |
