Abstract: | In the Netherlands momentarily a course is running which is aimed at investigating a preventive method in the striking for psychic symptoms. It is about how to beware your psychic health. The theoretical foundation is the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). ACT says that acceptance of unwanted emotions and events is positive for mental health. The participants learn that avoidance is defending one´s psychological health and that it can result – in the worst case – in serious psychopathology. The ACT is the prevailing theoretic framework but also contextualism and the belief in the individual´s capabilities of changing the attitude towards emotions and events become important in this course. This study is interested in relations between well-being, acceptance/ avoidance and related psychological constructs from the areas health, psyche and individual coping with events and emotions. Besides that a possible difference in sexes with relation to acceptance/ avoidance is of particular interest. The data is received through the first measurement of the participants from the course ‘Voluit Leven’. |
