Abstract: | The application Maintenance Slot Planning (MSP) has been designed, developed and implemented to improve the process of creating schedules for the Boeing 737 Cchecks in the narrow body base maintenance unit, Hangar 10. MSP makes it possible to rapidly visualize the effect of proposed changes to the maintenance schedule. This makes it easier for the maintenance slot manager to optimize the schedule by scheduling checks in a more efficient way than with the current software “OVG-tool”. The application supports the maintenance slot manager in making better schedules by automating most actions, including rescheduling of checks after capacity changes and by calculating if checks exceed their due dates. The actual planning decisions are still made by the maintenance slot manager. In real-world tests, savings up to 17% have been reported when optimizing existing schedules with the MSP application. These savings are the result of more efficient sequences and line dedications, so the average interval utilization can be increased while still respecting all business rules regarding interval utilization and safety margins |
