Abstract:The subject of this thesis is a comparative study on shame, anxiety and symptoms of social phobia, with the aim being to gain a deeper understanding of the relationships between these constructs. The central question is whether implications for the treatment of patients are relevant and maintainable when based on the positive relationship between shame, anxiety and social phobia symptoms found in student populations. Implications for treatment include, for example, the assertion that in patients suffering from social phobia, feelings of shame ought to be acknowledged and addressed (Lutwak & Ferrari, 1997
