Abstract: | This research took place to examine if physically disablad children have an influence on the participation of a family in society and to look if the head caretaker experiences a lesser quality of life and mental wellbeing. In the Netherlands there has not been any research about the quality of life of parents, head caretakers, with children who are physically disabled. In foreign countries there has been a lot of research about the quality of life of parents with ill children. The participation in society of the whole family and the mental wellbeing of the head caretakers has not been researched yet in the Netherlands and in foreign countries. The question that this research will answer is: “Can families with physically disabled children participate in Dutch society like other families, and do the head caretakers of these children experience a lesser quality of life and mental wellbeing?”. An online-questionnaire asked 97 head caretakers of physically disabled children ( age untill and with 19 years) about there participation as a family and their experienced quality of life and mental wellbeing. This research also examined if aspects of caregiving, like timespending and positive aspects of caregiving, are of influence on the quality of life and mental wellbeing of the head caretaker. |
