Abstract: | The aim of this current research, is to get insight in the role of hope in psychotherapy, with an emphasize on the vision of therapists on hope. The research took place in a centre for psychotherapy. This explorative research exists of two parts. A qualitative part, in which interviews were held with therapists (n=13), and a quantitative part in which clients (n=46) completed questionnaires to assess whether their level of hope changed throughout therapy and which factors might have influenced this change. This part was mainly used to support the qualitative part. The findings of both parts were compared with results of research from Snyder. This researcher has developed a cognitive and goal directed theory of hope in which hope consists of the interaction between two elements: pathways and agency. Snyder also formed a hope therapy based on this theory |
