Abstract:This article presents a profile of parents that are hard-to-reach with the national mass media campaign ‘Alcohol en opvoeding’. The audience was segmented based on their need for information concerning alcohol use of their children, their need to apply rules to the drinking behavior of their children and their need to attend program information meetings. Using ‘linear discriminant analysis’ psychosocial and life situational characteristics that best discriminated between the hard-to-reach group and the rest of the sample were determined. The results of this study show that linear discriminant analysis can be used to profile hard-to-reach groups in health communication and that it is advisable to include psychosocial variables when studying hard-to-reach groups in health communication
