Abstract:The objective of this research was to study if there is a positive connection between Mindfulness and mental health with Fibromyalgia patients. Previous research has shown that Mindfulness and psychological wellbeing are positively correlated (Baer et al, 2008; Pradhan et al, 2008). In recent research, Westerhof & Keyes (2008) concluded that beside psychological wellbeing also subjective wellbeing and social wellbeing exist and that these three facets together constitute mental health. Therefore it is now interesting to study if this same relation to Mindfulness applies to mental health. Data collection took place trough questionnaires on the website of the Fibromyalgia patients association. Next to demographic- and illness-related data, the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire and the Mental Health Continuum were administered. The results of this study show there is a strong positive relation between Mindfulness en mental health with Fibromyalgia patients. Results also show that Fibromyalgia patients indeed have a lower mental health then the general population. Concluding, Fibromyalgia patients can be recommended to practice Mindfulness to increase their mental health
