Abstract:Every year many woman and children become victim of human trafficking. The majority of these victims are being forced into prostitution. Although few things are known about the perpetrators, there hasn’t been any research that has focused on the personality of such offenders until now. Yet understanding the personality of an offender can lead to more effective investigation and prosecution. This study was conducted to investigate personality characteristics and the frequency of psychopathy in human traffickers. Using the Five Factory Personality Inventory (FFPI) and the Psychopathy Checklist Revised (PCL-R), we examined nine perpetrators. Results show perpetrators to score low on agreeableness and conscientiousness in comparison to the non-criminal population. On extraversion, neuroticism and openness no differences were found. One third of the perpetrators is found to have psychopathic tendencies.
