Abstract:In 2007 Tactus Verslavingszorg in cooperation with the University of Twente has researched shacks. The results were that visitors of shacks are more risky than non-visitors of shacks on usage of alcohol, alcoholic behavior and opinions about alcohol (Korte, 2007). That is why preventive measures and activities in the shacks are necessary. Tactus Verslavingszorg was wondering how parents, owners of shacks and policy officers look at shacks and the alcohol consumption within the shacks and what they find important. Through this thesis Tactus Verslavingszorg will gain insight to clarify their view on shacks and approach on alcohol usage in the shacks. The following research question will be answered: To which new angles do the opinions of owners of shacks, parents of shack-visitors and policy officers lead, when taking in account the alcohol usage in the shacks? The study consists of three parts: qualitative research with owners of shacks and policy officers, quantitative research with parents of shack-visitors. Research is done in two areas: Stedendriehoek Apeldoorn, Deventer, Zutphen and the Twente Region. The social function of shacks outweigh the negative factors. Alcohol stays a centre of attention. Alcohol is too normal and accepted. There must be invested in morals, standards and values of parents so they can draw the right borders, set an example, make it able to talk about the usage of alcohol and gain insight into the problems of alcohol. The policy should be custom made, because every community is different and every shack within the community is different. Shack are different then the media and imaging try to let us belief. De message tot 16 year olds is clear: no alcohol. It is time to come with a message for the 16 to 20 year olds. It should be possible to gain insight in how much they drink and how much alcohol they use in the shacks. Communities should be weary of making policy that may already exist. In the conclusion recommendations are made for Tactus Verslavingszorg and suggestions are done for future research
