Abstract:Research shows the application of theory about industrial and organizational psychology in practice has positive outcomes. Yet there is a gap between research and its application in practice. One reason appears to be that people who should bring research in practice, are often unaware of results from research. Therefore, some researchers believe that students must be confronted with recent research results during their study. This study examined a number of characteristics in relation to the knowledge that students have of industrial and organizational psychology. This study was conducted among 206 students who followed the course Introduction to industrial and organizational psychology. The results showed that the age of the students, having followed a training on college or university level and reading commercial journals are positively related to the knowledge of the students. Suggestions are made for future research.
