Abstract: | The Intensive Care unit of the neonatology provides treatment to children who are born early or who are sick. This unit came up with the question if there could be any research done on the day classification of a patient. The main question of this research concentrates on getting an image of a day classification of an average NICU patient. To answer the main research question the researchers have chosen to carry out a qualitative field study. Observations were used in the natural setting, therefore on the NICU department itself. The researchers have observed sixteen children. Eight of these sixteen children are chronic patients and eight children are acute patients. Every patient has been observed for 24 hours. The observation list used for this research is developed and tested by the researchers self. An extensive and relevant literature scan did not provide an existing measuring instrument. In this research coding is applied to analyze data. The findings of the observations are classified into categories. Results from the first observation are classified in nurse care, medical research or family visits. Treatments are classified into painfully, unpleasant, neutrally or pleasant. |
