Abstract: | Background Organizations change consistently. Improvements and changes in the organization, processes, systems or way of work have to be made to realize the new strategy. These changes are implemented by projects. Previous research shows that change projects often fail because (internal) communication is used incorrect (Frahm & Brown, 2006; Miller, 2002). Internal communication and project managers’ internal communication competences are perceived as crucial factors for the success of the implementation of the change (Brill, Bishop & Walker, 2006; Kitchen & Daly, 2002). This research investigated whether project managers perceive internal communication and their own communication competences as crucial factors during organizational change. Purpose The study consisted of two parts. First, it investigated the role project managers see for internal communication during organizational change and the way project managers want to be supported by an internal communication consultant. This qualitative research showed that project managers perceive internal communication as important. However, by budget shortfall they do not include internal communication in the project. With result, the internal communication has to be done by the project manager himself. Based on this result the second study investigated the effect of the communication-demands and communication resources on the performance of the project and project team |
