Abstract:Introduction The police in Twente has begun to use context driven working. Context driven working is a way to implement the territorial way of working. The local police officer helps residents as directed by the situation. The local situation is leading for this. There are four reasons to start with context driven working in Twente. Two internal and two external from the police force. Subsequently two pilot projects were defined with the police force Twente, namely Rijssen-Holten and Almelo-West. In this case Rijssen-Holten represents the rural community and Almelo-West represents the urban community. This way a distinction is made between rural community and urban community. The decision is made not to investigate both pilot projects but to compare one pilot project with a non-project situation. K.L. Brunninkhuis therefore conducted her research in the pilot project of Almelo-West and this research relates to the non-pilot situation of Tubbergen. Using the results from this research it is possible to examine how the police officers in Tubbergen proceed and to see how they are in contact with the inhabitants. This research is relevant to science because, unlike most studies, this study involves a rural community and not an urban community. Research questions This study involves the way the police officers in the team Tubbergen proceed. This study will focus on the extent to which they operate self-employed, to see if they practice context driven working and whether they perform all police duties. The main research question is as follows: In which way do the police officers in Tubbergen develop into self-employed, context driven working police officers, performing all police duties? This main question can be divided into the following sub-questions: · What is meant by the concepts of ‘self-employment’, ‘context driven working’ and ‘performing all the duties’ and what is expected of a police officer? · Which factors influence the self-employed, context driven and performing all the duties way of working of the police officers? · To which extent do the police officers in Tubbergen operate self-employed, context driven and performing all duties? · Which factors could explain the level of self-employment, context driven working and performing all the duties of the police officers? · Which interventions could improve the level of self-employment, context driven and performing all duties
