Abstract:This thesis presents research work as part of the author's Master of Science final research assignment involving the analyses of real-world internet protocol. This thesis encompasses five publications, including papers, an internet-draft and a poster. The first two publications result from continoud research following the author's Bachelor of Science degree. This involves definitions for elements in real-world Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) network traces. The third paper discusses separating periodic from aperiodic SNMP tra�c, based on the definitions stated in the first two publications. The fourth and fifth publication are a poster and a pending journal publication presenting findings following research in the field of the Domain Name System (DNS) at SURFnet. This includes observations of real-world DNS usage in general and presents two solutions that improve response deliverability in DNSSEC
