Abstract: | Objective: “Getting more out of your life” is a group course for students with mild to moderate anxiety and depression. The course is based on the Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Students shall learn to accept their feelings and thoughts, as well as live their lives according to their own values. The objective of this research was to find out how students experienced the course “Getting more out of your life”, if they found it helpful, and if there is anything they would like to add to the course or change. By means of these answers the course was evaluated and suggestions for improvements were made. Method: Based on the course schedule a semi-structured interview schema was constructed. After giving their consent, three students were interviewed. The interview was conducted face-to-face or via the telephone, at the same time an audio recording was made. Those recordings were transcribed and then analysed. Results: The three interviewed students were content with the course. They found the theory clear and the exercises helpful. Nevertheless, the students thought the course to be too short and not deep-going enough into the various topics. Moreover, they also wished for more individual sessions and dialogues. Conclusion: It seems that a good implication is to leave the content of the course unchanged. Furthermore, it would be good to offer a follow-up course to give in-depth attention to the exercises and to have more time to put them into practice. In addition to that, it would be wise to plan an individual dialogue with the student to intensify the focus on the progress made. |
