Abstract:This study aims at reaching three goals. It will first of all determine the educational achievements of second generation immigrants from the five largest communities in Germany, with special regard to Turks. Second of all, a theoretical model by means of a literature review will be developed. This model will then serve as the basis for the descriptive analysis which aims at answering the overall research question “How can we account for the differences in educational outcomes between second generation Turkish pupils and their age peers?” The analysis revealed that several factors can be held accountable for the observed educational underachievement of second generation Turkish immigrants.
