Abstract:One of the most important spearheads of the minister of Safety and Justice; Ivo Opstelten is dealing with the administrative burden of the police. This spearhead is mostly pointed at the executive (street) level of the police organization. In this research we have looked at the superintendents1 of the police officers. Not only have we made an inventory of administrative activities, we also examined which activities create the biggest burden. The research focuses on how these burdens are perceived, where they come from and how they are dealt with. We specifically looked at elements that stem from the organization itself. We have called this internal aspect of the problem: organizational burden. We have formulated the following research question: To what extent do superintendents – on the tactical level – of the Politie IJsselland experience or encounter (excessive) organizational burden. How is this burden perceived or expressed and where does it come from? To point out the use of this research and to position it, we first explain the concepts that are used in this research. After that we will answer the research question and subquestions.
