Abstract:Research on viability of a shower drain which recovers energy from the waste water has been done on behalf of the company Archimedes Solutions. In this case energy recovered from the waste water will be used to heat up the water that goes to the faucet. The assignment is the last part in order to complete the bachelor track of the study Industrial Design. A concept design was the starting point of the assignment. Roughly, three steps have been taken to research the viability. At first knowledge about the heat exchanger theory has been gathered. With this information an approximation of the technical viability was possible. After and during this step the practical side was analyzed. This led to a new concept design, two product ideas and design guidelines for the final product. In the final step two prototypes have been made which can be used for testing purposes as well as demonstrating purposes. The conclusion is that a product of this kind might be viable, but more research is needed to determine this.
