Abstract:For this assignment a reclinable loungeset needs to be designed. The main problem is the mechanism: this needs to be steplessly and has to work without manual operation. Such a loungeset does not already exist and it is therefore a challenge to design a whole new mechanism. Sunsit monitors the market, listens to its customers and as a result they have a feeling that reclinable loungesets are becoming a trend. They want to respond as rapid as possible to make this loungeset a success. Customers need to be able to relax in the loungeset and the user experience needs to be excellent. As well as design, quality must be guaranteed. Therefore, an analysis is needed. There has been looked at the collection of Sunsit itself and at competing products. Also an usage analysis has been carried out. After the analysis, some ideas were created. Based on existing loungesets from the collection of Sunsit, some concepts were created. There were multiple ideas about the positioning of the mechanism and about the design. Design studies were done and finally one design has been chosen for further development. A prototype was made, which is at such stage, so the mechanism can be tested. This prototype is made in China. The design is also tested (in theory) against several design criteria. The results were positive against most main criteria, but still a lot of work needs to be done. Especially some material, weight, and costs reductions are necessary.
