Abstract: | There are many products related to tablets available on the market. Cases, screen protectors, bags, but no adequate solution for use of a tablet in the catering industry. However, the company that gave this order, POSnet, is attempting to help its clients with this problem. POSnet is a small company that is specialized in the design and development of cash register software and applications for the catering industry. They use, among others, iPods, iPads and iPad Minis to take orders at the table. Afterwards, those orders are sent to a printer that prints a receipt saying what is to be made. The iPads, however, have a carrying system that does not function well. The iPad cannot be put away quickly, and this obstructs other activities. Moreover, the current solution does not protect the tablet from damage when it falls or bumps into something. Finally, the current solution is not being made anymore for the latest generation of iPads. POSnet, however, notices that there is a great demand for a new, reliable solution. Therefore, POSnet would like to see a new tablet holder designed which will enable the user in the catering industry to take orders in a fast, easy and pleasant way. In order to take all demands and wishes into account an extensive analysis was carried out. All actors were analyzed and their different demands and wishes were listed. In order to accomplish this a couple of interviews were taken, among other things. Moreover, the surroundings in which the product will be used were looked at, as well as the current market. This virtually implied that the sizes of the product for which the design had to be made were examined and the positive and negative sides of the current tablet holders were looked into. The information from this analysis was taken to the phase of idea generation. Here different ideas for the universal tablet holder were invented. Three of those ideas were chosen, developed into concepts and modeled in Solidwords. Based on the demands and wishes generated from the analysis the final concept was chosen. This model was stylized and adapted. Afterwards a working prototype was made in the workshop. Based on this prototype several aspects that could be improved were observed, those improvements were implemented in the final design. |
